Kamandi is basically your average everyday 16 year old kid who happens to live in a world where animals rule and man is cattle.  He was brought up in a command bunker underground in New York city U.S.A. ( a city that floods every day with the coming of the tide, about 200 feet higher than the current water levels) Everything Kamandi knows he has learned from file tapes stored in the bunker (Command D) and the tutoring by his grandfather. We meet Kamandi just as his grand father has died and now he must go and explore this new world. He has the same feelings as anyone one of us who have 1.) woken up to find the world as we know it is dead. 2.) Has their only living relative murdered right before our eyes. 3.) Has his first girl friend shot to death by uncaring thugs. 4.) Is treated by everyone as completely mad and some sort of freak - I.E. Most every teenager 5.) Has to fight for his survival every minute of every day.

Kamandi is as tough as nails, quick on his feet, smart as a whip in a street smart sort of way. He has had to develop a fighting style that can deliver punishment to creatures four times his weight and strength. He once took out the Batman with a single punch. His speed and agility are unbelievable - Olympic level athletics. The gene pool in his system is possibly the last surviving truly and completely human DNA left on the planet. Preserved because of his staying in the bunker for his entire life and his genetic background. Kamandi's grandfather Buddy Blank (OMAC the One Man Army Corps) was given the same super-soldier serum that Marvel Comics Captain America had taken. Apparently all subjects after Captain America had died taking the formula. Buddy survived because his genes were augmented by the dormant Clark Kent genes that were still in his system from birth. Buddy's mother was Lois Lane obviously a perfect human specimen or a darn good one anyway. OMAC was re-built cell by cell by the most powerful computer system mankind had ever built Brother Eye. So basically Kamandi has one hell of a tough bunch of ancestors. However he is truly only human and no more.( Brother eye did turn Kamandi into OMAC on one occasion, but in doing so appeared to finally run out of battery power and now floats dead in orbit around a world it never knew.) Obviously whatever threat OMAC was created to stop failed as did all the super-heroes. Only Superman put up a valiant effort to save the world from  the great disaster but in the end even he could do very little against a mankind hell bent on destruction. Fear and power leading the scientific community into horrendous experiments that go insanely out of control ( Basically the worst parts of the Terry Gilliam movie 12 Monkeys and the film series Planet of the Apes.)      

Buddy Blank (OMAC) is his Grandfather and Clark Kent (Superman) & Lois Lane are Kamandi's great grand parents. Kamandi is really just a very sad boy searching for some friends somewhere, desperately looking for something but he knows not what. He constantly gets involved in the various wars going on in the new world. And all though he makes friend easily he has a great deal of difficulty keeping them. He always feels as if he is the outsider. Any happiness is snatched with great vigour and is always very temporary. Death is a constant companion in the world of Kamandi. Earth A.D. After Disaster is one of immense power and riches and  bloody horrible wars as the new powers that be struggle to gain prominence. Alexander the great, Caesar, Napoleon, the Fantastic Four, King Kong and Sargent Fury and his howling Commando's all have versions in this world and all at the same time   

Kamandi is blond, blue eyed, white as a sheet even though he very rarely wears a shirt even in Canada. and as is evidenced by the strip below is a babe magnet. Not that he has much competition as the rest of the male population are a bunch of useless morons who scatter like cattle and run like the wind usually screaming at the top of there lungs - for some unknown reason . The best one can do is after years of training get them to talk in small syllable worlds and act as slaves. That however is the best the average are as dumb as two rocks.
