Peanut Stumpers Answers

You will find listed below some possible answers to the Peanut Stumpers questions on the previous page. If you have not yet attempted to answer them click on the link above to have a go at them before reading these possible answers.

•  Is Spike a real character? Can you prove it? Does the character interact with any character other than Snoopy? And if not, is he then, just a Snoopy illusion like the Red Baron? (Yes we know that comics are not real. It was very witty of you to think that.)

I personally always thought that Spike was an illusion, I just thought that Snoopy had a very overactive imagination. However Thea has come to the rescue and proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is indeed a real character as he appears with Lucy here in this Spanish storyline below.

•  When does Violet first appear? Is she one of the four original characters?

No, Violet is not one of the four original characters, as she did not appear until 2nd of February 1951 (or possibly the 7th of Feb 1951)  She is however the fourth human character to join the cast. The original cast was Charlie Brown, Shermy, Patty (Not Peppermint Patty) and Snoopy.

•  Does anyone know the real name of the little red-haired girl? For we know, that the character is based on a real person that Charles Schulz used to know.

In the TV special: "Its your first Kiss Charlie Brown" The Little Red Haired Girl is referred to as Heather. However no name is ever used in the actual comic. Apparently The Little Red Haired Girl was based on a girl that Schulz once proposed to, but she refused him as her mother thought that Schulz would never amount to anything. Her name married name was/is Donna Wold, but I do not know her maiden name.

•  How many different hats does Charlie Brown have?

I have no idea! Let me know if you do.

•  Has Charlie Brown ever kicked the football that Lucy holds for him?

Yes, I am sure I saw him kick the ball in one of the TV Specials in which Charlie Brown for some reason became invisible, but I do not know of any successful kicks in the actual strip.

•  What does South Park's Stan have in common with 'Peanuts' Linus?

Figure it out!

•  What does Calvin from 'Calvin and Hobbes' have in common with 'Peanuts' Linus?

Come on, I am not going to give them all away!

•  What kind of bird is Woodstock? And why does he fly upside down?

Ok, I have a "Far Out" theory on this one that you may or may not like. Could it be that Woodstock is permanently stoned and thus...? Ok, for another theory we have: "At some stage in the comics, Snoopy and Woodstock try to decide what kind of bird Woodstock is. They decide that he isn't an eagle as he gets beak-bleeds if he flies too high, and he isn't a duck" Which I suppose helps about as much as my theory! LOL. (Laugh Out Loud) Obviously the jury is still out on this one.

•  Has Charlie Brown's baseball team ever won a game?

Apparently yes, Charlie Brown's baseball team HAS WON a game, but of course it had to be forfeited because Rerun bet a nickel on the Game with Snoopy. Charlie Brown's baseball team has also won games when Charlie Brown wasn't there. When Charlie Brown was away (off sick?), Linus took over running the team for a game or two, and they won. As soon as Charlie Brown returned, they started losing again.

My thanks to Kylie Davies, Tom, Bob Diethrich and Thea for help with the answers. If you can elaborate on any of the answers or prove any of them wrong or even have a good theory of your own, just send me an e-mail and I'll add your name & information to this page. And as I am currently in promo mode I would like to recommend Thea's very cool Snoopy fan web site at the URL listed below.
